Quality...

There are two key production elements vital to the eating enjoyment of lamb; diet and welfare.

• Our lambs receive a diet based on grain high in protein and energy which they can access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By receiving this best possible nourishment, the amount of muscle is optimized which results in a dramatic enhancement in meat tenderness. Poorly nourished lambs or older sheep tend to be tougher leading to an unpleasant eating experience.

• Our aim is to ensure our lambs are exposed to the absolute minimum amount of stress possible, as stress influences the taste of the lamb causing the meat to be tougher. We have designed our grain finishing system with stress reduction as a key driver and the management practices that we use have animal welfare as the main objective. Our passion for the welfare of our lambs has seen an increase in the tenderness and flavor of the meat.

Thornby Grain Fed Lamb offers total traceability through the production and processing chains. 
We are accredited with the internationally recognized AusMeat Livestock Production Accreditation Scheme (LPAS) QA Grain Fed Lamb Program. Through participating in this QA program, (which we are one of only a handful within Australia) consumers of Thornby Grain Fed Lamb can be assured that animal nutrition and welfare standards have been met and food safety standards are followed.

The vast majority of feed utilized by our lambs is sourced and produced on our own property ‘Thornby’. This further extends consumers ability to trace the food they are eating.
