Lamb News

A lot has happened in since the launch of our brand and website just over 1 year ago. Some of the highlights so far are; developing relationships with on-going customers and meeting new ones, establishing a regular stall at the Barossa Farmer's Market and purchasing our very own butchers shop.

For almost a year we have had a permanent stall at the Barossa Farmer's Market. This is held every Saturday morning throughout the year and is open from 7.30am to 11.30am. The market is located behind Vitners Bar & Grill between Angaston and Nuriootpa. It is a great little market with a wide range of fresh meat, fruit and vegetables and a wide range of tasty condiments, pastries and anything else foodie that you could think of. All up there are around 50-60 different stall holders each week. 

At the market we sell our grain fed lamb in individual cuts packed on trays (ie 6 loin loin chops, 1 leg roast, 1 french rack). We also take orders for both whole and half lamb packs for pickup the following week. The market has been a great way for us to speak directly to our customers and get their feedback although it does comes at a cost, no more late Friday nights! 

 

Shop News

Yes it's true we have bought a butchers shop!! This may seem a crazy idea but is something that the family has wanted to do for some time. When the opportunity came up to purchase Thorn's Quality Meats in Tanunda we had to jump at the chance (also the fact that the names are so similar had to be a sign!). We have been in the shop for just over six months now and have incorpatd a range changes. Firstly and most obviously was the name change to Thornby Fine Meats. We have employed two experienced and skillful butchers who are fulltime in the shop with a casual sales assistant lending a hand. We are up in the shop as much as we can lending a hand where needed.

Some of the key features of Thornby Fine Meats are:

    • Thornby Grain Fed Lamb, MSA Beef, Murray Plains Grain Fed Beef, Greenslades Free Range Chicken, Narrarbri Pork
  • Wide selection of hand-made sausages
  • Fresh South Australian seafood available all year
  • Local pantry items including olives, coffee, dukkah, sauces
  • Local milk, eggs and cheeses
  • Selection of smallgoods (mettwurst, black/white pudding)

 We are open 8.30-5.30 Monday to Friday and 8.30-12.00 Saturday morning. We would love it if you stopped in for a look.

 

Farm News

Once again we seem to find time pass us too quickly on the farm. It only seems like yesterday we were madly harvesting our crops. Now the new season is well underway with the seeds in the ground and trying to make their way up. The season has started off alright although a bit more rain would be appreciated and the mice to finally move away would be great too.

This year we have had great results with our lambing percentages. Across our mobs we are so far running at 141% lambing rate. This is a best result ever and something that we are all very proud of.
